She was born December 29, 1924 in Conway, Arkansas to Roscoe and Nellie Maye Tomson Perkins.
She graduated from Branch High School in 1942 and attended the College of the Ozarks. Later she worked at Fort Chaffee during World War II. She spent the majority of her career working for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department and later served as Secretary for the Department's retiree association. Kathy was a long time member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Senior Ministry and Senior Choir. She was famous for her wonderful pies, which she shared with her family and friends, none of whom could replicate her talent. Kathy loved her Savior and her family. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, her church family, and her extended family. No matter the trial or victory in life, Kathy trusted in God to see her through.
She is survived by her son, Mark A. and wife Terri Abbott of Bartlesville, OK; two step sons, Jack R. Fortner of Muskogee, OK and Dave Fortner of Hackett, AR; two sisters, Lea Muck of Fort Smith and Rhea Lowder of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Mike Perkins of Corpus Christi, TX; and four grandchildren, Lauren Daming, Alan Abbott, Jacquie Fortner, and David Fortner.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack W. Fortner, Jr., one sister, Bess Brown and two brothers, Wayne Perkins and C.I. Perkins.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Edwards Funeral Chapel with Private Family burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery of Fort Smith all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
