His stone lists Ellerstadt Reinish Bavaria as place of birth
Really was searching to see if he died in the civil war, and located the website geni.com where I also researched a lot of the Jewish names in this cemetery that I added with photos. Below is what I located (transcribed, not copied).

Birthdate: March 21, 1833
Birthplace: Ellerstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Death: Died January 2, 1861 in Jackson, Hinds Co., MS
Parents:
Son of Yitzchak Herold
Father of Tillie M Bahr (She has a link to other family members' names.

The Palatinate in Germany is where a lot of my family came from as well. There's a lot of history with this location and how they came to America. I was also interested that on this website his first name is listed as Moshe and Moritz is in parentheses. I'm sure a family member would be able to help with this.

I also looked at the JOWBR (JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry) at www.ancestry.com and located this information below:

Name: Moritz Herold
Hebrew Name: Moshe b Yitzchak
Birth Date: 21 Mar 1833
Birth Place: Ellerstadt Reinish, Bavaria
Death Date: 02 Jan 1861
Death Place: Jackson, MS
Age at Death: 27
Burial Place: Jackson, Hinds Co., MS
Cemetery: Beth Israel Cemetery

I located a ship list, for the ship Sharon from Bremen to the port of New Orleans, that included 4 persons with the last name Herold: Moritz, age 12, August, age 4, and Carl age 1. The other looks like John G or Job G, age 37, farmer. the Captain was Merryman. Source: New Orleans Passenger List, Quarterly Abstracts 1820-1875 for 24 Dec 1846. Not sure if this is him or not, but it bears checking into.

Also, found this list, Encyclopedia of Southern Jewish Communities - Jewish Cemetery List, Jackson, Mississippi, listing that included his name as a burial in the Beth Israel Cemetery in Jackson. This is a list on the website of Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life.
