Avis “Marie” Ward, age 65, of Freeport, Florida passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She was born August 9, 1950 in Paxton, Florida. Marie viewed every trip to the store as one more opportunity to purchase a scratch off ticket. She loved working in her vegetable garden. Planting, nourishing, and harvesting her veggies to put up in the freezer and share her bounty with family and friends. It was widely accepted by many, Marie could cook the best tasting peas and fresh corn one could find anywhere.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, William and Fannie McCart; brother, Howard McCart; sister, Mary Ellen Blocker; and son, Rodney Altman.

She is survived by son, Thomas Lowe and wife Ann of Ponce de Leon, FL; two sisters, Louise Brown and husband Gerald of Freeport, FL and Cricket of Massachusetts; one brother, Buddy McCart of Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, beginning at 11 a.m. with Minister Joel Davis officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at Paxton Cemetery.

Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home.
