Jimmy Lee McKinney, age 62, of Shelbyville, TN passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 13, 1953, in Carthage, TN, son of the late Jim Albert & Mary Elizabeth Whitehead McKinney. He was an engineer and a member of the Lone Oak Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Lee McKinney Gaines.

Jimmy had several passions in his life aside from his family. He was madly passionate about education. While holding down a full-time job to support his family, he also went to night school for over 12 years to finally achieve a 4 year degree in engineering. One of his greatest accomplishments that he was most proud of in his working career is that he built the proto-type for the first hardened space suit.

He also loved to talk politics and was very well versed in the subject. He would literally talk for hours with anyone. As a man with many passions, he also loved to fish and hunt. He kind of knew where all the good spots were and took the sport very seriously. He loved to sit out on the porch and just look out over the farm and he spent many hours doing this. Jimmy loved to play card games and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Probably the greatest passion of all for Jimmy was mentoring his children and grandchildren on life, the pursuit of education and doing things right. Jimmy touched all of our lives in so many ways and he had a very big heart.
Funeral services are Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Kevin Calahan officiating. Interment will follow in Old Orchard Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
