8/21/1920-11/25/2007
Lloyd was raised in Redding, California, and was a Roseville area resident for the last 50 years.
He will be remembered as a war hero for having served his country in both World War II and the Korean War. As a navigator during World War II, he was a veteran of 29 bombing missions over Germany before being shot down and being held captive as a prisoner of War from 1944-1945. His efforts in Germany, on behalf of his country, would subsequently earn him a Purple Heart. He later climbed to the rank of Colonel in the USAF Reserve, from which he retired in 1971.
He was the "Pride and Joy" of his family and friends, with a new (or tired old one) joke always at hand. He was a devoted father and grandfather, rarely missing one of the youngsters' sporting events. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, sailing on the Sacramento River, and traveling.
He was a part of the surveying team that built the Shasta Dam. Upon his return from the war, he worked for the State of California and Mobil Oil Company until beginning a 40 year career with New York Life Insurance Company.
He ardently supported the Sacramento Blood Bank and personally donated over 34 gallons of his blood to that organization.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jane Nutter (Bonham), and his eldest son, Glen. He is survived by his sons, Bruce (Maureen) and Scott, and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Russell, and Andrea.
The family extends a special thank-you to the UC Davis Hospice program for their assistance during Lloyd's courageous battle with cancer.
Friends are invited to the family home at 221 Keehner Ave in Roseville on Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 1-3 pm for a celebration of the lives of Lloyd and Jane.
