MARY MELINDA CARPENTER, age 96, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born on February 25, 1920 to the late Lemuel and Ollie (Busenburg) Lawrence in Coshocton County, Ohio.
Mary was a very private person and loved to read, especially the newspaper and would read every word. She loved to play Bingo at the Laurels along with watching any baseball game she could find on TV. Most of all, people will remember Mary as being a sweet and lovely person.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary A. Lawrence and Marguerite Lawrence; nieces, Betty (Ronnie) Jones and Virginia (Todd) Cochran; great-nieces, Katelyn M. Simpson, Diane (Jeff) Altharb and Charlene (Joe) Soraka; and a nephew, Joshua D. Simpson.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Carpenter; son, Larry Pence; a sister, Ada Huston, and 4 brothers, Paul, Eugene, Roy and Max Lawrence.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home; 201 Newark oad, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050, with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. A private burial will take place in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
