Born in Skien Norway, friend and neighbor of Henrik Ibsen, Theodor emigrated to NY in 1849 with his brother Paul and cousin John BC Brown. Together they formed Eckstorm Brothers and Brown, with stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois from 1854 - 1879.
In 1857 he married Maria Dames in St Paul Minn. He died in Chicago at age 52, leaving behind 10 children, the youngest of whom was 3 months old.
His parents were Christian Severin Balle Eckstorm 1772 - 1845, a sea captain sailing out of Christiana ( Oslo) Norway and Alison Kirstine Lieungh 1789-1865
