Born July 5, 1924, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late William Badger Overcash and Delola Cook Overcash. He was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church and retired in 1972 from the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn Overcash, Clyde Overcash and Paul Overcash.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Goodman Overcash; a daughter, Barbara O. Trott and her husband, Robert F. "Bob" Trott, of Durham; a son, Jeff S. Overcash and his wife, Lisa Cobb Overcash, of Salisbury; a sister, Beulah Mae Fink of Concord; and six grandchildren.
