Ivan Thompson passed away on September 19, 2011 at Yakima Memorial Hospital. He was born May 21, 1921 in Granger, WA, and farmed in Selah, WA for over 40 years.

Ivan was raised in rural Granger. He graduated from Granger High School and served a term in the Army during World War II, where he spent time in North Africa and Italy.

After a medical discharge, he worked as an optical technician and later as a hospital orderly.

He married Laurine Winquest on June 22, 1947. After settling into their Selah home, he became a nurse practitioner.

Ivan has been active in the Selah Heights Grange and has held many offices. He was also an active member of Yakima First Baptist Church for over 60 years and served there in various capacities. He was active in the local Red Cross, the Yakima Chapter of the DAV, and an avid rock collector.

He is survived by his wife, Laurine Winquest Thompson and two children, Janice Thompson Moser of Bothell, WA and Daryl Thompson of Selah, WA. He has three grandchildren Mary Moser, Alvin Todd Moser and Wendy Thompson.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, September 26 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima with internment to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Red Cross.
