Oscar E. Bertsch, 95, of Bluffton, passed away early Friday morning, April 8, 2016, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born in Adams County, on July 3, 1920, to Samuel and Rosa (Minger) Bertsch, Oscar married Sylvia Hirschy in Adams County on Feb. 14, 1942; she preceded in death on Aug. 8, 2015.
Oscar served in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. He worked as a production supervisor at Franklin Electric for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and especially spending time with his family.
Survivors include three sons, James (Christy) Bertsch, Stan (Cindy) Bertsch, and Mike (Carmon) Bertsch, all of Decatur; a daughter, Nancy (Bill) Kunz of Columbia City; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Bertsch of Bluffton; and a step-brother, Richard (Elaine) Reimschisel of Bluffton.
In addition to his parents and wife, Oscar was preceded in death by seven brothers, Herman, Leonard, Melvin, Jay, Harve, Robert, and Laurin Bertsch; two sisters, Gladys Lantz and Beulah Schwartz; a grandson, Zachary Bertsch; a step-mother, Nellie Bertsch; and half-sister, Agnes Schaefer.
Visitation will be Friday, April 15, 2016, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held Saturday morning, April 16, at 10:30 AM, at the Apostolic Christian Church East, with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Ryan Bertsch and Ron Kipfer will officiate.
Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Adams County, with military graveside rites provided by the American Legion Post 111 in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Cancer Redemption Legacy Fund for Loving Shepherd Ministries or Forgotten Children Worldwide.
