Mrs. Schwartz had been employed at Craigville Hardware and Appliance for
20 years and had also worked at Franklin Electric for three years. She was
also a homemaker. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
She was born May 7, 1930, in Adams County, to Sam Bertsch and Rose
Minger Bertsch. She married Howard E. Schwartz Dec. 12, 1948, in Bluffton;
her husband died July 18, 2010.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Barb) Schwartz of Bluffton and Dale (Joni)
Schwartz of Decatur; a daughter, Sharon (Gary) Merritt of Craigville; nine
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Laurin Bertsch
and Walter (Lillian) Bertsch, both of Bluffton, and Oscar (Sylvia) Bertsch of
Decatur; and a sister, Gladys Lantz of Bluffton.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by
a daughter, Cheryl Schwartz, in 1950, and six brothers, Jay Bertsch, Leonard
Bertsch, Herman Bertsch, Harve Bertsch, Melvin Bertsch, and Robert Bertsch.
Calling will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at
the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the
Apostolic Christian Church East. Services will be held at the Apostolic
Christian Church East at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Edward Schwartz and
Mark Gerber officiating. Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Christian Care Retirement Community.
