Joel Steven Hall
1939 - 2016

Early Life: Joel was born October 28, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Claus Walter and Hannah Emma Ludwigson Hall. He grew up on the family farm in Manila (Pleasant Grove). He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where he was honored as his class valedictorian.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: On June 16, 1961, he married his sweetheart, Joyce Alldredge, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of: Shauna Baird (Kelly), Chad Hall (Jen), Cory Hall (Amy), Shelly Gutiérrez (Joe) and Chris Hall (Jennifer). Joel and Joyce made their first home in Alpine, Utah, for 36 years. They loved Alpine and the surrounding mountains where they could ride their horses. A highlight of his life in Alpine was when he was privileged to serve as Mayor from 1994 to 1997. Alpine was a special place for Joel as he was blessed with wonderful lifelong friends. After Joel’s children were raised, he and Joyce decided to move to Manila, back to his roots, near his siblings. It was there that he and Joyce were able to build their current home on the property of the original family farm. Joel’s life was centered in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he had many opportunities to serve others. One of his favorite experiences was serving a mission at the Nauvoo Temple in 2003 with Joyce. Ministering, as the Savior would, came easily to Joel because of his love of God and his fellowmen. The summation of his life should be known by the caption “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” He was employed as a Professional Engineer working for the State of Utah for 30 years. After his first retirement, he joined private engineering firms: Arix, Versar and Civil Science. He had many additional professional talents such as becoming a Licensed Land Surveyor and he designed and drafted many house plans. He worked tirelessly and made sure his family always had what they stood in need of. Joel had a unique sense of humor that anyone who knows him well has come to appreciate. His loved ones expected the unexpected. He was always known as a kind, gentle, honest man and everyone could always be assured of his unalterable integrity. Later in life, he developed a hidden talent as an artist and became quite accomplished using oil paints. He painted to express himself and share his remembrance of his life experience. He shared many of his works of art with friends and family which will be enjoyed for a lifetime. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandpa and brother, Joel Steven Hall, passed away peacefully at his home in Pleasant Grove, Utah, on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. He was surrounded by his five children as he succumbed to the effects of leukemia.
Survived By: His wife, Joyce; his five children; his siblings: Mack, April, Carol, Robyn and Lianne; 25 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews that are too numerous to count. His family was truly a blessing to him.
