Memorial Services for Dr. Jamar Reid will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Lufkin. Dr. Reid was born March 29, 1931 in La Feria, Texas, spent his youth in Woodville, Texas and died April 5, 2016 in Lufkin, Texas.

Dr. Reid was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jeann Ferguson Reid; and his parents, Royce and Helen Reid.

He graduated for Kemper Military Academy with honors; he also attended Tulane University and was a graduate of Baylor University. In 1957, he graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. While in school, he was a member of Kappa Sigma, Phi Chi Medical Fraternity and the Ostean Club. After serving two years in the United States Army, he established his OB/GYN practice in Lufkin in 1963 and retired in 1994. He was a member of the Texas OB/GYN Society, Angelina County Medical Society, Texas Medical Society and American Medical Association. For many years Dr. Reid served as Deacon and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Lufkin. Being an avid sportsman and hunter since childhood, he was co-founder of the Ducks Unlimited Chapter in Lufkin and served as State Chairman and National Trustee for ten years.

Dr. Reid is survived by his son, Royce; son, Lawrence and wife Donna; daughter, Jennifer and husband Paul Heath; and granddaughter Elizabeth Reid Heath.

Private burial will be held at Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.
