Eugene F. "Gene" Brennan Jr., 67, died Mar. 8 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Ill. He was born Mar. 22, 1934 and grew up in Edison Park. He has lived in the Wheaton-Glen Ellyn area for the past 35 years.

A graduate of St. Juliana School, St. George High School (Class of 1952), and the University of Notre Dame, he served in the U.S. Navy and attended flight school.

He worked for Salomon Smith Barney for 42 years, retiring as senior vice president of sales. He was named a member of the Chairman's Council, for excellence in client services. He served on the board of directors of Lauerman Bros. Department Store in Marinette, Wis.

Among his activities, he was a member of the Bond Club of Chicago and the Glen Oak Country Club since 1967, the Des Moines Club of Des Moines, Iowa, and a charter member of the Sky Line Club of Indianapolis.

In Glen Ellyn, he served on the St. Petronille School Board and the Glenbard West High School Booster Club, and coached years for the youth football program and girls' softball. He was past president of the Amateur Athletic Association of Glen Ellyn and was responsible for starting their girls' softball program.

Mr. Brennan was an advisor for many years to the Brain Research Foundation Board and many other charities around the country. The foundation, at 120 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1300, Chicago IL 60603, and Maryville Academy, 1150 N. River Rd., Des Plaines IL 60016, were suggested for memorial donations.

Visitation was held Mar. 10 at the M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, Chicago. His funeral Mass was held at Maryville Academy on Mar. 11, conducted by the Rev. William Cullen. Burial was at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.

Mr. Brennan is survived by his wife Lois Hays Brennan; children, Thomas (Missy), Jeanine (Tom) Hegg, Kathleen (James) Edmunds, Daniel (Mary) and Amy; stepchildren. Ann (Phil) Wolski, Susan (Rex) Mills, John Hays, James Hays and Dan (Julie) Hays; grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Brigid and Megan Brennan, Riley, Elliot and Emily Edmunds, Sam Hegg, Matt and Joe Wolski, John Mills and Jason Hays; brothers, Thomas (Becky), Joseph (Sherry) and Michael (Jackie); and a sister, Mary Kay (Michael) Gallagher.
