In 1955, he and his brother entered into a partnership by purchasing their first farm. To help through hard times, he took various construction jobs around Rapid City, SD. In 1958, he was drafted into the army where he served 2 years.
In the mid 1960's he started his career in sales forming a partnership with Francis Grahn selling snowmobiles. He later worked at O.K. Machine Company where he worked for Jack Grahn. In 1971, he moved to Brooten and started selling the Brut snowmobile. Two years later, he formed a partnership with Greg Grahn called Brooten Fabricating selling truck boxes and field flaggers. In 1976, they expanded the business and created Farm Star, selling truck boxes and irrigators. They sold that business in 1982. The following year he started selling woodstoves and formed Aqua-Therm with Clint Welte and Kathy Terpstra. Olav and Kathy continued their Aqua-Therm partnership for 20 years. During this time, they had a few other ventures, including a hardware store in Brooten.
He retired in 2003. In his retirement he continued connecting with people by selling lefse part-time for Jana Mae and Larry Kittelson. He also enjoyed running errands
for, and with, Mark Bayer. During all of his business ventures, Olav had wonderful family events as well.
On November 13, 1977, he was united in marriage to Betsey Sagedahl. They resided in Brooten. Their daughter Angela was born in 1979 and their son Steffen in 1983. Olav's life centered around hard work. When he was able to pull himself away from working, he thoroughly enjoyed life in a variety of ways. In his earlier years he babysat his cousins, nieces, and friend's children. He also loved playing whist, visiting friends and relatives, traveling to Norway, playing whist, singing, politics, reading, playing whist, and spending time with his children and granddaughter. Olav's favorite hobby was keeping the wood pile stacked high.
Olav Isane died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN.
Olav is survived by his wife, daughter Angela (Douglas) Groebner, Coon Rapids MN, son Steffen (Samantha) Isane, West Fargo ND, granddaughter Kayla Groebner, sisters Marta Heggedal, Badger MN, Oddluag (Njal) Isene, Norway, Dagrun Brotherston, Olympia WA, Ragnhild Herset, New Hope MN, and brother Sverre (Marlene) Isane, Badger MN, and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Per Heggedal, Willard Brotherston, and Johannas Herset.
