In the early 1950's, he became manager for Webb Pierce and Faron Young. In 1952, he opened the Hubert Long Agency, followed in 1955 with his establishing the first independent talent agency in Nashville, Stable of Stars.
He was one of the founding members of the Country Music Association (CMA) and Country Music Foundation. He died in 1972 of a brain tumor while in the prime of his career. He was posthumously elected to the prestigious Country Music Hall of Fame in 1979 for his contributions to Country Music.
