Promoter; Talent Agent; Began his career in the music industry working in the record department of a dime store in Corpus Christi, TX. He went to work for Decca Records in San Antonio in the 1940's. When his Decca boss relocated to Houston to join RCA Records, Long moved to Houston and RCA with him. While at RCA, Long met Col. Tom Parker who, at the time, was managing Eddy Arnold and Hank Snow. Parker hired him to do publicity for Arnold which helped catapult the singer to superstardom.
In the early 1950's, he became manager for Webb Pierce and Faron Young. In 1952, he opened the Hubert Long Agency, followed in 1955 with his establishing the first independent talent agency in Nashville, Stable of Stars.
He was one of the founding members of the Country Music Association (CMA) and Country Music Foundation. He died in 1972 of a brain tumor while in the prime of his career. He was posthumously elected to the prestigious Country Music Hall of Fame in 1979 for his contributions to Country Music.
