COWIN C. GUELL
THORP –Corwin C. Guell, 66, Thorp, a former Thorp attorney and Clark County assemblyman, died Sunday afternoon of an apparent heart attack while on a cruise ship enroute to Jamaica. He and his wife were on a vacation cruise when he suffered the fatal attack.
The body will be cremated at Miami, Fla.
Mr. Guell was born at Fond du Lac and received his elementary education in that city. He graduated from North Central College at Naperville, Ill., in 1931 with a BA degree and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1934.
He came to Thorp in June 1934, and except for the 30 months that he spent on active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a lieutenant during World War II, he had been actively engaged in the practice of law in the City of Thorp until retiring in 1971.
He was an employee of Thorp Finance Corp. and also for its various subsidiary corporations.
In 1956, he was elected as assemblyman and represented Clark County during the 1957 session of the legislature.
At the time of his death, he was a member of the Thorp school board, was active in community and civic affairs and took an active part in the Methodist church. He also was active in the Clark County Republican Party for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife and three children.
