Vergil Poole, 87, of Thief River Falls and formerly of Lake Bronson, Minnesota passed away at Oakland Park in Thief River Falls on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Carl John Vergil Poole was born March 13, 1929 in Springbrook Township of Kittson County, Minnesota to John and Hilma (Anderson) Poole. He was baptized and confirmed at East Emmaus Lutheran Church and attended country school. On October 31, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joyce Adell Anderson at the East Emmaus Church. Vergil was a lifelong Lake Bronson area farmer and served on the Jupiter Township Board. He and Joyce moved to Thief River Falls in 2006. Joyce passed away on August 22, 2011. Vergil loved telling jokes, bowling, deer hunting, fishing, tending his berry patch and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Bronson and served on the church council.

Family members include his two sons, Corwin (Sally) Poole, Green River, WY and Michael Poole, Crookston, MN; five grandchildren, John, Joel, Sarah, Nicholas and Alex; brothers, George (Iris), Greenbush and Kenneth (Ione), Thief River Falls; a sister, Viola, Wyoming, MN; and special friend, Adeline Grahn, Karlstad, MN. Vergil was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; and sisters, Edythe, Martha and Ruth.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church at Lake Bronson. Interment will be in East Emmaus Cemetery, rural Lake Bronson. Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Chapel in Hallock on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presiding; Corinne Jacobson, soloist and Sharlene Klegstad, organist. Casket bearers will be Robert Lindholm, Lyndon Anderson, Lydell Anderson, Jerry Anderson and Curtis Anderson. Honorary casket bearers will be relatives and friends.
