Claire Elizabeth Davis, 86 of Williamsburg, Kansas passed away March 31, 2016 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She was born January 5, 1930 in Overbrook, KS, the daughter of Harvey Walter Talley and Myrtle Avis (Tregemba) Talley. She was a lifelong Kansas resident and had lived in Williamsburg for the past 65 years.
She graduated from high school in Overbrook, received her bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University and her Master of Education from Emporia State University. Claire began her teaching career shortly after her high school graduation in a number of one room school houses. Following that, she taught at Princeton grade school, followed by teaching at Garfield Elementary School in Ottawa, KS for many years. And, finally, she taught at Williamsburg Elementary school, retiring in 1992 after forty-four years of teaching.
On March 11, 1951, Claire was united in marriage to Wendell E. Davis at the Church of Brethren in Ottawa, KS. They shared 65 years of marriage. He survives of the home.
Claire was also survived by three daughters, Marjorie Bryant of Williamsburg, Ginger Tabares and husband, Eddie, of Emporia, KS, and Rebecca Steadman and husband, Greg, of Lawrence, KS; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Travis, Erica, Aaron, Amber, Natalie, Whitney, Davis, and Dayna Claire; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Boyd and Don Talley; and one great-grandchild, Seth Steinfort.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Ottawa, KS. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Williamsburg, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS.
