Helen Eugnie Swisher Greene, was born on February 5th 1920 to Wilkie and Jessie Swisher in Akron Ohio, and passed on July 25, 2015. Helen spent most of her young life living in the Twinsburg Ohio area. During World War II Helen served in the United States Coast Guard as a codes commissioner encoding and decoding secret messages to and from the front. In November 1945 Helen met the love of her life Walter Lee Greene in Cleveland Ohio. Helen and Walter were married in April of 1946. They were married for 68 years until Walter’s passing on Thanksgiving day 2014.

After the war Helen taught english, french, spanish and latin at the same school district for 30 years. After retirement, she and her beloved Walter moved to Allentown Georgia to be with family. Helen learned to play golf in her 60s after she realized she might not see much of her husband if she did not. Helen worked at lowering her handicap in order to play golf at Saint Andrews in Scotland during a vacation in 1995. During this time she and Walter were also able to be spectators at the British Open.

Helen is survived by daughter Elizabeth Laubhan, son in law Rich Laubhan, and grandson Erick Carse.

Services will be on Saturday April 9, 2016 at 11:30am at the Allentown Georgia United Methodist Church, 12:30pm lunch at the church, with committal service at 2pm at the Allentown City Cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Collinwood Assisted Living facility in Fort Collins Colorado and Halcyon Hospice for their loving care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Allentown Cemetery Fund, PO Box 100, Allentown GA 31003.
