During high school, Don was involved in many activities and was especially known for his love of music. He played the trumpet in band and was a member of the Brass Sextet and the Cornet Trio.
After High School, Don served in the Army in the Korean War.
After the war, he worked in Chicago for a short time. He then moved to Wichita to be closer to his family. In Wichita, he was employed by Pearce Turk where he worked for 37 years until he retired. Don was especially known for his love of children. His niece Sherry fondly remembers his visits to Anthony and all the fun they had together and the joy he brought to her life.
On February 14, 2016, he passed away at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Pearl and his brothers, Virgil and Gale.
He will be greatly missed by his sisters-in-law, Claudine Gering of Virginia and Wanda Gering of Wichita; his nieces, Connie (Gering) Williams and her husband Gary of Arkansas, Sherry (Gering) Greenwood and her husband Robert of Virgina; and nephew Rick Gering and his wife Cindy of Tennessee; their children and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service was held on April 14, 2016 at 10 am at Bibleway Pentecostal Assembly, 1203 Galena, Wichita, Ks. 67216. An interment followed at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery 1208 N. College St. Wintield, KS 67156.
