He is survived by his sons, Claude L. Thornton and wife, Michelle and Royal J. Thornton, all of Pittsfield; his grandson, Mathew and wife, Whitney, of Scarborough; his brother, John Thornton of Pittsfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife, Louise Thornton, in 1986; his sister, Geneva; and his brother, Charles.
A private committal will be held in the spring at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
The family requests memorial donations to be given to the Pittsfield Community Food Bank, c/o Ed Reynolds, 128 Connors Avenue, Pittsfield, Maine, 04967, in Claude’s memory.
