Born on Sept. 9, 1964, in Brookville, Sandy was a daughter of Marilyn Patricia (Kahle) Shannon and the late Donald Wade Shannon. She graduated from Brookville Area High School in 1982 and was a 1986 graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a B.S. in Studies of Society and Environment.
Sandy was passionate about her career as a social worker at Penn Highlands Brookville. Her bright, humorous personality, contagious laugh and loving smile allowed her to help so many people during her 22 years at Brookville. She loved going to work every day, not only to help people but to make it a fun and enjoyable working environment for herself and her co-workers.
Sandy enjoyed entertaining friends, working in her yard and, most importantly, spending time with her family. Anyone who looked closely could see a perfect example of love when seeing Sandy and her husband, DuWayne. The two were married on Sept. 19,
1987, and were together for almost 29 wonderful years. Jointly, they took care of their home, visited with friends and family and spent time with their two children, Shannon and Brady Shaffer. Throughout the years, they enjoyed numerous sporting events, band concerts and motocross races together to support their children.
Sandy had a blast every time she was with her two sisters, Donna Shannon Slater and Nancy (Shannon) Beight, and her brother, Brad Shannon. Whether they were shopping, visiting at Donna's or trying desperately to line up for a family picture, laughter was heard a mile away.
Sandy was a member of the Knox Dale United Methodist Church and an active member of the Knox Township Volunteer Fire Department. A few of her favorite memories are from the fire company's annual Labor Day celebrations and her annual Fourth of July party.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerome Kennedy officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Knox Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sandy to the Knox Township Volunteer Fire Department, 5005 Ramsaytown Rd., Knox Dale, PA 15847, or to the Knox Dale United Methodist Church, Knox Dale, PA 15847.
