Mrs. Christine Marguerite Herbold, 82, passed away at 5 a.m. Wednesday at her home south of town after having been bedfast for the last year.

She was born in Germany October 8, 1855, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hartwig and came with her parents to America when a child. She was married to Henry Herbold in 1871, they lived in Jasper County a few years before moving to a farm south of Rhodes and later to the farm about a mile south of town. Mr. Herbold died several years ago and she also was preceded in death by a son Lee and a daughter, Mrs. Martha Merryman. Mrs. Herbold is survived by two sons and two daughters, Julius, of Edgemont, S. Dak., Mrs. Rost Vogt, Lima, Mont., and Mrs. Sophia Shyrock and Walter, of Rhodes. Seven grandchildren also survive. She was a member of Crystal Chapter No.11 O.E. S. and Rhodes Rebekah Lodge No. 362.

Funeral services were held from the home at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. E. A. Cochell, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church. Supt. And Mrs. R. C. Ringold sang. Pallbearers were Ollie Lutteken, E.L. Tribby, Fred Hale, Wayne Hildreth, Harry White and Harold White. Interment was in Eden cemetery. The impressive Order of Eastern Star Service was read at the Cemetery by Worthy Matron Myrtle Richeson assisted by her staff.

Present from away at the services were Mrs. Rosa Vogt, Lima, Mont.; Mrs. A.C. Herbold and son, and Chris Herbold of Colfax; Will Herbold, Ira; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hartwig, Kellogg; W.C. Merryman, Blairsburg; Mrs. Adeline Callahan, Laurel; and friends from State Center and Melbourne.
