Edward Bain was one of 12 (known) children of George and Sarah Bain (her maiden name may have been Thomas).

Edward was baptized on March 16, 1817 at the Garrison Anglican Church, Montréal while his father was a Sergeant in the 104th Regiment, during the War of 1812. Witnesses were John Thomas (Corporal in the 104th) and Bridgette Thomas (nee McGrath/McGraw) (both signed with their mark).

On March 28, 1839, at the age of 22, Edward enlisted in the US Army in Houlton, Maine. He was described as 5'8" with blue eyes and brown hair.

Edward and Catherine Ann Black were married 26 Apr 1845 in Saint John, New Brunswick. Witnesses: Thomas Black, John Patton. They were the parents of 8 (known) children: Georgina Ann, John Fenwick, Thomas R, Rebeka Jane 'Jennie', Wesley W, Ransford, Bessie Graham, and William Herbert.
- Georgina Ann married James Crawford 24 Apr 1874 and died/buried 12 Feb 1875. Her memorial may be 'Anna Crawford' (179871372). Their infant son, Ernest G, died 28 Oct 1875 age 8 months 22 days.

Edward was a professional Tailor and he advertised in the Saint John, New Brunswick directories.
