Emma Jean Pierson, wife of Charles Victor Pierson, rejoiced in the presence of the Lord on March 8, 2016 at her home in Charleston. She was the mother of "Jeanie" Schwan Martin, "Roni" Simon Boggs, the late "Chuck" Charles Thomas Pierson, "Vic" Louie Victor (Jenny) Pierson, the late Danny Gene Pierson and "Sam" Samuel Carl Pierson; she had 19 grandchildren, Jimbo Schwan, Sheletta Thomas, Tom Schwan, Suzette Conley, Lynnette Simon-Marshall, Rawhide Simon, Billy Boggs, Ben Pierson, Victoria Younis, Jennifer Pierson, JT Moore, Jeremy Moore, Sam Pierson Jr., Christina Pierson, Daniel Pierson, Jacob Charles Pierson, Jessica Craft, Hollie Craft, Katie Ryan; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, "Susie" Brenda Butcher, and brothers, Charles, Claude and Eugene Bowles. She was the strength of her family, and will always be remembered for her kind and loving ways. She may have passed on, but her memories will always live on.

Emma was born Sept. 1, 1932 in Charleston to Otis William and Macil Charlotte (Skiles) Bowles. She was preceded in death by her sons; her parents; her sisters, Ruby, Josephine and Margaret; her brothers, Otis, Delbert and Robbie; and her in-laws, Granville and Ethel Pierson.

She was one special lady, and the loss of her is felt deeply by many, even though she lived a full life. Everyone who met her called her Mom-maw Pierson. She lit up a room with her smile, her laughter and her generous heart. She was an enthusiastic collector of anything pretty, a grand fashionista, an amazing cook and an avid gardener. She loved to go camping, read and shop, shop, shop.

Emma was a previous member of Maple Hill Baptist Church, a current member of Walnut Gap Missionary Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She was loved and well-respected by her church families and was always the first to volunteer to cook or lend a helping hand. Emma was strong in her faith and lived her life for the Lord as she was, with Charles, a member of the Gideons. Emma's spirit and strength lives on in the lives that she touched.

Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Stevens and Grass Funeral Home, 4203 Salines Drive, Malden. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the funeral home, and the burial and committal service immediately following in Clendenin Memorial Gardens, North Point Road, Clendenin, with Pastor Greg Reese presiding. Please join everyone in thanking her for her sacrifices, her care and concern, her love and everything that she has done for all her family and her friends.
