James R. Sipe, Jr., 60, of Harrisonburg, beloved father, brother, son and friend, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, March 20, 2016. The son of [names of living family/friends removed for privacy] and the late James R. Sipe, Sr., he was born November 27, 1955, in Harrisonburg.

Jim graduated from the University of Richmond and received his law degree from the University’s T.C. Williams School of Law.

Jim was a successful real estate broker and developer with Funkhouser Real Estate Group. He was the past President of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Association of Realtors and also a member of the Virginia and National Association of Realtors. Jim also served on the Board of Directors of Union Bank & Trust.

Jim was equally as devoted to his community. He was involved in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 450, serving as past exalted ruler and trustee. In addition, Jim was also the past President of the Lions Club locally as well as past zone and regional Chairman of the Lions International District 24-C. Jim served as a member on several local Harrisonburg committees including, the Harrisonburg/Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, Stewardship Committee for Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Harrisonburg Downtown Revitalization Committee, JMU Duke Club, JMU’s Athletic Performance Center Steering Committee and past President of the Greater Madison Foundation, and the Construction and Renovation Committee for Emanuel Episcopal Church.

Jim was a consummate gentleman of upstanding character. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The [names of living family/friends removed for privacy] will conduct the funeral service at 11am Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Emanuel Episcopal Church in Harrisonburg. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.

There will be a gathering to honor his life with the family receiving friends from 6-8pm Tuesday at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sentara RMH Hahn Cancer Center, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
