Carolyn married Don Duane Coates on June 27, 1964 and they were married for 31 years. Carolyn then married Hobart Gary Block, Sr. on November 25, 1996. They were married for 20 years and he survives her in death.
Carolyn graduated from Sarcoxie High School before graduating as a registered nurse from the Burge School of Nursing in 1964 in Springfield, MO. She worked at Ashley Clinic for over 30 years, primarily for Dr. Earl Gehrt. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter, DD and the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chanute and played a vital role in the church's youth program. She led the youth group at the church for several years and was also the youth choir director. Carolyn loved music and besides the church youth choir she directed a select choir comprised of high schoolers from various churches in the community called Shenandoah. She also played the piano for The Minute Men Quartet.

Step Daughters: Heather House (Stephen) of Parsons and children Amia Martinez, Brooke M. Martinez and Mitchell House; Sarah L. Marshall (Roy) of McCune and children Nathan

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the church.
