Bob Neel
Robert Gordon "Bob"
Neel passed from this earth into eternal life with our Lord on April 19, 2010. Born Oct. 9, 1918, in Rowan County near Woodleaf, to Drew Latta and Edna Alice Davis Neel moved their family to Iredell County when Bob was about 3 years old. He graduated from Mt. Ulla High School in 1935, and helped raise younger brothers and a sister after their father’s death. On April 26, 1941, Bob married Lucille Shinn, who preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 2001.
Surviving is a daughter, Frances Ann Neel; brother, Francis Neel and sister, Deanna Neel Clarke. Deceased are an infant daughter, Alice Rrena Neel; sister, Mary Elizabeth "Dutch" Neel Fewell, and brothers, Anderson, Jim, Bill, Ed, Henry, Joe and Doug.
Bob was a self-employed farmer, having milked Guernsey cows until 1960 and afterwards bred commercial beef cattle, sheep and registered Appaloosa Horses. He was a member of the Iredell County Cattlemen Association, the NC Cattlemen Association and the Appaloosa Horse Club, Inc. Having joined Prospect Presbyterian Church as a youth, Bob served there for many years on numerous Deacon and Elder Committees, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. Bob also attended Crossroads Church of God 7th Day (Saturday Sabbath), Statesville.
A graveside service celebrating his life will be held at Prospect on Wednesday, April 21 at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Prospect Parlor one hour before.
