Joseph Homza

Mr. Joseph Homza, age 86, of Pleasant Grove Community passed away Sept. 28, 2006, in Bonifay, Fla. He was born March 17, 1920, in Edwardsville, Pa., to John and Anna Giba Homza.

Mr. Homza had been a resident of Walton County for the past 38 years after retiring from the United States Army. He was Catholic by faith. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era, having received the Silver Star for Bravery, serving his country in the United States Air Force and United States Army before retiring with over 20 years of service as a sergeant.

He was an avid outdoorsman.

Mr. Homza was predeceased by his father and mother; three sisters, Mary Plevel, Anna Homza and Kathryn Evans; and three brothers, John Homza, Edward Benkovich and William Benkovich.

Mr. Homza is survived by his wife, Ruth Padgett Homza of Pleasant Grove Community; three sons, David Homza and wife Oksana of Arlington, Va., Dan Homza of Pascagoula, Miss., and Tom Homza and wife Lisa of Altus Air Force Base, Okla.; one brother, Michael Benkovich of Geneva, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Rachel, Joe, Anastasia and Joshua.

A time of visitation will be held from 6 p.m. 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with Chaplain Scott Bowen officiating.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.
