Donnabelle moved to Iowa at age one and spent her childhood in Earlham until 1945 when her family moved to Norwalk where she graduated from high school with the class of 1945. She then graduated from the Broadlawns Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse with the class of 1948. Her first nursing position was with the Dexter Hospital. She did several types of nursing such as Community Care, WICC program, Meredith Publishing, Public Health, several nursing homes and the Winterset Hospital. She retired from nursing in 1998.
Donnabelle brought a lot of joy to her family and others playing guitar and singing. She performed in the surrounding communities and for the Hawkeye Jamboree with her Country Clover Trio.
Donnabelle married Robert Neal of Dexter, Iowa January 15, 1949. This union was blessed with four children: Steven, Barbara, Gregg and Jean. Robert and Donnabelle farmed, raised their children, and were involved with the neighbors and community life.
Donnabelle leaves the following family to carry on her memory: son Steven Neal and wife Judy of Earlham, IA; daughter Barbara Kalbach and husband Jim of Dexter, IA; son Gregg Neal and wife Jodi of Houston, TX; daughter Jean Scott and husband Mike of West Des Moines, IA; brother Burl Sandusky and wife Roberta of Lovelock, NV; sister Rita Meeks and husband Gene of Edna, KS; brother Vernon Sandusky and wife Norma of Edna, KS; brother John Sandusky and wife Ellen of Altamont, KS; brother Ron Sandusky and wife Janet of Coffeyville, KS; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchild; and longtime companion Duane "Robbie" Robinson of Stuart, Iowa.
Donnabelle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Neal and her brother Calvin Sandusky.
