Ellis III was the son of Ellis Short Jr. and Mabel Oleda(Tandberg) Short. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during WW II ('43--'46) mustering out as a corporal at Camp Beale in California. He spent most of his time in the 499th Army Air Forces Base Unit, was stationed in Ohio, and met Orville Wright. He earned the WW II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Miss Patricia Ann Fawcett on Saturday, January 19, 1957 at Saint Paul Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri. He was a lifelong member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Shorty was passionate about his family as well as about hunting and antique cars.
Ellis is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pat (Fawcett) Short; three children, Julia Eller, Ellis Short IV and John Paul Short; five grandchildren, Laura Eller, Savannah Eller, Aurora Eller, Jonathan Short and Ellis Short V. He worked at Sears Roebuck for many years. His ashes were scattered during a private ceremony in the family flower garden.
