In 1847, at the age of fourteen, he came to New York, where after a stay of three years he came here. In 1851, he returned to New York, but came here in 1854, and in 1856, came to this place and began farming which he has carried on since. In 1873, the people of the Third Assembly District of Brown County, made him their choice, and he was elected State Assemblyman for two terms, 1874 and 1875.
In 1854, he married Miss Bridget Brown, a native of County Mayo, Ireland. They have two sons and three daughters living, and three sons buried in the parish cemetery in Morrison.
