, 75, of Monett, MO, passed away on Friday evening, March 11, 2016 while at his home.

Billie Joe was born on September 9, 1940 in Monett, the only son born to the late William Edward "Willie" Long and Francis Lydia (McCormick) Long.

Billie Joe had been in the Monett area all of his life, working on the family farm and graduating from Monett High School with the Class of 1958.

Following his school years, Billie Joe served his country for over six years in the National Guard.

He had been a member of the New Liberty Methodist Church.

One of the joys of Billie Joe's life, besides being with his family, was going to cattle shows and going to Milan, MO on hunting trips.

On January 18, 1964 in the First Baptist Church of Pierce City, Billie Joe married Marilyn Jean Hunnell.

To this union, four children were born. Being blessed with over fifty-two years together, Billie Joe and Marilyn made many wonderful memories together.

Billie Joe is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the home; three sons all of Monett, Larry Long, and his wife Anna, David Long, and his wife Angela and Chris Long, and his wife Kayla; one daughter, Cathy Long, of Monett; six grandchildren, Taylor, Hayley, Kaitie, Natalie, Abby and Adaline Long; as well as a host of extended family and beloved friends.

Billie Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Long and Mary Margaret Tennison.

Funeral services to celebrate Billie Joe's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Jimmie Copley will officiate.

Interment will follow at Kings Prairie Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kings Prairie Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
