A native and lifelong resident of Thibodaux, Maurice died on Tuesday, February 8, 2016.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral from 9:00 AM until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Known to family members as "Sonny", he was an avid sportsman all of his life. He loved to fish and hunt whenever he could. Over the years he owned a series of fishing boats, each of them larger and better equipped than the earlier ones.
He was a graduate of Thibodaux High School. He served in the United States Air Force for several years and was assigned to Air Force bases in the United States and in Korea.
After he left the Air Force, he went to work at the American Cyanamid chemical plant in Luling, beginning as a process operator and retiring as superintendent of plant process maintenance.
Before his retirement, he built a beautiful camp at Grand Isle, doing a lot of the design and construction work himself. In retirement, he was happy to share it with family and friends.
In his younger years, he was active in the Thibodaux Fire Department, which awarded him a number of awards for his volunteer work. He led the committee that acquired a new truck for the Home Hook and Ladder Co., which acknowledged his work by placing his name prominently on the new truck, which is still in service. His work with the Fire Department led to his being designated a permanent honorary fire chief.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice E. Adams Sr. and Juliette Martinez Adams, and a sister, Jacqueline (Jackie) Cormier.
Survivors are a brother, Arthur J. Adams and his wife, Nora N. Adams; and a brother Norman N. (Nick) Adams and his wife, Jeanne Adams. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Maurice lived in the family home. His brothers want to acknowledge the work he did to provide caregivers and other assistance to their mother in the last months of her life until she died in her home on July 8, 2001.
