Vivian P. Lane, 88, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.

Vivian Patricia Petersen was born October 14, 1927, in Guthrie County, Iowa, to Christian N. and Lydia (Andersen) Petersen. Except for being born in Guthrie County and attending country school there, she was a life-long resident of Atlantic. On May 2, 1947, she married Edward Lane Jr. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. She was employed by the Cass County Memorial Hospital as well as being an accomplished homemaker and a dedicated caregiver of a family’s daily household.

Vivian was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. She also was a member of Nishna Hills Golf Club and the Atlantic DOES and the Danish Museum in Elk Horn.

She loved to dance and enjoyed watching and listening to the Hawkeyes. Christmas was always an important full-sized event with multiple types of Danish food and pastries. She liked being neighborly and making food for people. She and Ed were a very loving couple who showed the utmost respect for each other. They loved family and supported them in all their endeavors.

Those preceding Vivian in death were her parents, Chris and Lydia Petersen; her husband, Ed Lane; parents-in-law, Edwin and Zoe Lane; siblings, Emory Petersen, Iona Maier and Shirley Lillard.

Surviving Vivian are her children, Curtis K. (Carol) Lane of Omaha, NE, Karen K. (John) Bagshaw of Massena, IA and Christy J. (Jerry) Brix of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Bagshaw of Cumberland, IA, Sarah (Matt) Schiltz of West Des Moines, IA, Amy (Barry) Losh of Urbandale, IA, Melissa (Nathan) Miller of Atlantic, IA, Matt (Kim) Brix of Ankeny, IA, Emily Brix (Chad Finken) of Atlantic, IA; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Hunter, Dannon, Lashley, Jonathon, Joshua, Connor, Grace, Megan, Amber, Alek, Madi, Makenna, Garrett, Noah, Elizabeth and William; brother, Orville D. (Lavonne) Petersen of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, Bernard (Lois) Lane of Des Moines, IA; special niece, Carol (Henry) Crain of Davenport, IA; and other family, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. all on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
