Jessie Lee Roark Cain died the 7th of March 2016 at her home following a short illness. She was a fifth generation Texan, born to Dr. Alfred W. Roark and Rissie Collins Roark the 5th of September 1923 in the oil boomtown of Saratoga, Texas.
In high school, Jessie Lee participated in all forms of musical, drama, and speech competitions, after graduating as Valedictorian; she began her lifelong association with Texas Christian University. After graduating with highest honors, she continued to serve TCU for many years on the Boards of the Clark Society, Quinq Club, and the Scholarship Committee. She went on to earn a Master's degree in music theory from Columbia University in New York City.Jessie Lee led a full and active life; she has been a member of Bethany Christian Church since 1958 where she taught Sunday school and directed the Children's Choir for many years. She was an active and supportive member of the Blue Bird Circle. She was a hostess at Bayou Bend and a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She supported the Houston Symphony, the Museum of Fine Arts, the AD Players, and the Women's Institute.She is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shirley Diane Cain, her parents and beloved sister and brother, Mary Elizabeth Roark and Alf W. Roark. She is survived by daughter Carol and son Allan of Houston, and daughter Mary Lee of Corpus Christi and their respective spouses, Curtis Mundie, Jentje Cain, Ron Brown, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to thank Lisa Jones, Grace Epka, Lakisha Thorns, Cynthia Robertson, Victoree Berry as well as the staff at A-Med Hospice for their loving care in her final days.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Sunday, the 13th of March at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at half-past nine o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 14th of March, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. The family will gather for a private interment at Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze, Texas.In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to The Blue Bird Circle, Attn: Treasurer, 615 West Alabama St., Houston, TX 77006; or Texas Christian University, Donor Relations, TCU Box 297045, Fort Worth, TX 76129.
