Horace Bradley was born 8 June 1788 in Bantam, Litchfield County, Connecticut, according to Town of Litchfield Vital Records (Barbour Collection). He was the son of Aaron Bradley, who served two enlistments in the Revolutionary War, and Lorrin Abernethy, the daughter of Dr. William Abernethy of Harwinton, Litchfield County.

On 7 Feb 1808 in Litchfield, Horace married Hannah Twitchell, according to the Town of Litchfield Vital Records. She was the daughter of Benjamin Twitchell and Clarinna Hawkins. Horace and Hannah had 10 children: Leaming Hawkins Bradley, Frederick Abernethy Bradley, Dan Augustus Bradley, Julia Ann Bradley, Henry Bradley, John Bradley, Edward Star Bradley, Aaron S Bradley, Clark S Bradley, and Amelia Grace Bradley. They are listed in Genealogical and Family History of Central New York, Vol. III, pgs 1223-1224 by William Richard Cutter.

Horace was a farmer and also kept the tavern and store operated by his father Aaron. Starting about 1839, his children began moving west, many to Chenango County, New York. Son John moved there, then on to Dodge County, Wisconsin, in 1844, the year his mother died. In the 1850 Census, John is enumerated in Trenton, Dodge County, with wife Elizabeth, son John S., daughter Lovenia, father Horace Bradley, then 62, and brother Clark.

Horace is believed to have died in Dodge County, Wisconsin, some time after the 1850 census. Family and DAR genealogy sources say 15 Aug 1850. His burial place is unknown, but likely Dodge County.

Clark moved back east but John farmed in the La Crosse, Wisconsin, area and served in the Wisconsin Assembly. By 1854, Horace's eldest son Leaming Hawkins Bradley was in Chicago, Illinois, and by 1858, Leaming's son Sherman Abernethy Bradley was a carpenter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Leaming joined his son in Milwaukee from about 1861-1871.

Horace's Bradley lineage goes back to Stephen Bradley (1642-1702) who came to New Haven, Connecticut, about 1645 from Bingley, Yorkshire, England. This Bradley line in America is Stephen, Abraham, Abraham, Leaming, Aaron (a Revolutionary War veteran), then Horace Bradley.

NOTE: Three more children of Horace and Hannah are buried at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Guilford, Chenango County, New York, and have FindaGrave memorials that can be found by name or number. They are:

> Clark S. Bradley, #76714047
> Julia A. Bradley Shepard, #101236832
