Memorial services for Brian Lee Parish, 49 of Tahlequah will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Pryor High School Auditorium. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home of Pryor.

Mr. Parish was born May 10, 1957 in Earnest Harmon Air Force Base in Newfoundland, Canada to Donald Lee and Lillie B. (Perdue) Parish. He died September 24, 2006 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Brian's family moved frequently while he was growing up, due to his father being in the Air Force. At the age of 12, Brian's family moved to Claremore, OK, where he graduated from high school in 1975. He married Carol Gourd on July 2, 1976 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Claremore and had their first son, Donnie Lee on May 17, 1977 in Pryor. Brian managed Git N Go Stores for 5 years in Claremore and Okmulgee. The couple's second son, Aaron Bryce was born July 3, 1981 in Okmulgee, OK. In 1982, Brian and Carol bought the Osage Mini Mart and operated it for 9 years. He then went to work as a night clerk at the Pryor House Motor Inn and attended school at Northeastern State University during the day obtaining his bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education in 1995. Brian then took over the 7th grade Reading Class at Pryor Junior High in December of 1994. He also coached Junior High Golf for 10 years, from 1994 until 2004. He coached many teams to conference and state championships and at one time had over 70 members on the Junior High Golf Team. He served 2 years on the Arts and Humanity Council, 4 years as a Junior High Business Representative, 2 summers with Summer Leadership Training and was the recipient of many grants from the Pryor Academic Excellence Foundation. Brian was Pryor Public School's 2004-2005 Teacher of the Year. He was very active as a Teacher's Representative at the state level and the Native American Student Association. Brian enjoyed taking many field trips to museums with his students. He was the scorekeeper for Pryor Basketball games and also announced the Junior High Football Games. Brian moved to Tahlequah in the Fall of 2002 to be closer to his grandchildren. The biggest joy in his life besides teaching was his grandchildren. He loved to read and enjoyed all sports, especially the University of Oklahoma and the Dallas Cowboys.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of the home; 2 sons, Donnie Lee Parish and wife Misty Dawn of Tahlequah, OK and Aaron Bryce Parish and wife Natasha Rae of Tahlequah, OK; 1 step son, Dallas Eugene Jones of Broken Arrow, OK; 2 brothers, Michael Parish and wife Cindy of Bowmar, CO and Patrick Keith Parish and wife Vicky of Choctaw, OK; 2 sisters, Karen Beth Parish-Mewes and husband Horst of Nederland, CO and Carol A. Drake of Tulsa, OK; 5 grandchildren, Courtney Cate Jones, Dylan Lee Parish, Emma Mae Parish, Madison Dawn Parish, and Gracie Maye Parish; mother, Lillie B. Parish of Claremore, OK; Uncle Jack Cornwell and wife Kathy of Claremore, OK; many nieces and nephews, and lots of loving friends and students.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Parish on May 30, 2001 and his grandparents.

Family suggests that memorials be made to the Pryor Academic Excellence Foundation (PAEF), at PO Box 901, Pryor, OK 74362, donations for the PAEF/Brian Parish Memorial Fund may also be dropped off at RCB, Dr. Pearson's office or the Pryor Junior High. Memorials can also be made to the Native American Student Association (NASA).
