Legion of Merit: for actions during the World War II - Rear Admiral Ernest Ludolph Gunther, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander Fleet Air South Pacific from 5 January 1944 to 2 February 1945.
