Dallas L. Pace, age 78, passed away in a local nursing facility on Dec. 17, 2001.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1923, in Bethesda, Ark., to the late Bob and Jesse Wright Pace.

He graduated from Cushman High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1963 after honorably serving his country in World War II and the Korean War. He served in the Reserves until 1975. Mr. Pace was bestowed the Asiatic-Pacific Medal; Victory Medal; American Theatre Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed and retired as a locksmith for the Okaloosa County School Board. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Cinco Baptist Church. Mr. Pace owned Pace's Locksmith Shop until his retirement in 1999.

He and his mate of 44 years, Evelyn, made their home in Mary Esther, Fla., for 32 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Jessie Pace; wife, Evelyn Prescott Pace in 1999; daughter, June Shamburg and great-grandson, Patrick Ryan Reed in 1983.

He is survived by his daughter, Pat Reed of Crestview, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and James Jones of Batesville, Ark.; grandchildren, Charles Mitchell Shamburg of south Florida, Devanie Brophy of Crestview, Lessa and Tommy Moody of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Tricia Reed of Tallahassee, Fla.

He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Christopher Shamburg, twins Charles and Krislei Shamburg, Trista Michelle Brophy, Daniel Jacob Reed, Logan Thomas Moody; and a great-great-grandchild, Angelica Shamburg.

He is survived by his wife's sisters and husbands, Etoyle and Bud Manush of Sheffield, Ala., Yvonne and Ronnie Steele of Fort Walton Beach, Milo and CA Williams, and Mary Charles Bonta; brother-in-law and wife, Titus and Virginia Prescott, all of Crestview.

Among other survivors are cousins and friends in Batesville, Ark.

To celebrate his life, the family will host a visitation Friday, Dec. 21, between 2 to 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. Pace's daughter Pat Reed in Crestview.

Viewing will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Whitehurst Funeral Home with graveside services to be held at 3 p.m. in Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery, with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be CA Williams, David Williams, Joe Bonta, Chuck Bonta, Rodney Steele and Russell Steele.

Arrangements and services under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Home in Crestview.
