Adolph Smith was born in Haderslev [Denmark], December 6, 1839. He came to America when but 18 years of age. His first stopping place was Iowa. He was married to Miss Anne Farmer, June 2, 1869. To this union were born eight children, five girls and three boys, all living. Mr. Smith brought his family to Albion 25 years ago and here he spent his energies in making a home and in bringing up his family to honorable manhood and womanhood. He did his part well and succeeded in both.
For several years he has been in poor health, the last four a helpless invalid the most of the time. He made his home with Harry, who with his faithful wife, deserve the highest honors in the community for so faithfully caring for such a helpless father.
Death came to his release Saturday morning, the 7th inst, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 1 day.
Funeral was held from the home on Second street Monday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by D. J. Poynter, and the body laid away beside his wife in Rose Hill.

[Adolph was born in Haderslev, Denmark. He probably arrived in New York in 1959. It's not known if Adolph came over with relatives or with the LDS. The minister who married them in Sebula, Jackson County, IA was JM Smith, likely the son of Joseph Smith II, one of the founders of the LDS.]

One son, Alfred Lewis Smith 1879-1941, probably in unmarked grave in Wheatland IA. Alfred lived in Arizona, and his body was shipped to Iowa after his death.
