He later divorced Frances Louisa and later re-married Agnetta Larson in 1881. She was the widow to Judge Thomas M. Chambers of Steilacoom. This marriage produced no children. Fred Meyer served in the Mexican War and at Fort Steilacoom in the state of Washington where retired his military career. He became a successful farmer, business owner, and Pierce County public official. He helped guide the early history of Pierce County, and the State of Washington.
