Several of the city's oldest and most productive farms were located exactly in the center of the city between Cahill and Babcock, from East 70th Street south to 90th Street. In the northwestern corner of this area, at Babcock Trail and 70th Street was the farm of Joseph and Margaret Becker Reichstadt. Joseph had been born in Germany in 1830, and met and married Margaret, who was a native of Ohio, on 18 Jan 1862 in Logan County, Illinois. They settled in Inver Grove a few years later with their children, Mary and Emma. Emma Reichstadt wed Louis Breisler in 1891. They settled on a portion of the Reichstadt farm across from the Glassing and Binder homesteads. IGH History
The Reichstadt farm, to the south of Old Emmanuel Lutheran Church, was built by Joseph Reichstadt in the 1860's. It remained in the family for more than one hundred years.
