Matthew D. Harper (1973 - 2016)

HINSDALE - Matthew D. Harper, of 4251 Gile Hollow Road, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 24, 2016).

Born Oct. 29, 1973, in Yakima, Wash., he was the son of Douglas and Nancy Journey Harper. On July 7, 2007, at St. Mary of the Angels Church, he married Kathleen "Kelly" Layman, who survives.

Matt was currently attending college at Jamestown Community College and had previously worked at the Olean General Hospital as a physical therapy aide. He was a past member of the Hinsdale School Board and had coached Hinsdale youth soccer and softball teams. Matt enjoyed photography and working on computers, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Matt is survived by a daughter, Leyna Harper at home; his mom, Nancy (Blane Marlow) Morris of North Carolina; a brother, Lucas (Lisa) Morris of Arizona; his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Journey of Ohio; father and mother-in-law, Lyle and Helen Layman of Olean; three sisters-in-law, Karen (Jeremy) Layman-Woolston of Olean, Kristin Layman of Olean and Kaitlyn Layman of Olean; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father.

Burial will take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
