Arthur S. Abert, 76, of Camillus passed away after a long illness. Arthur was born in Syracuse, a life resident of the area, and a graduate of Eastwood High School. He was a firefighter with the Syracuse Fire Department for 33 years before retiring in 1985. Art loved to golf, fish and enjoyed being outdoors, and being surrounded by his family. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Fairmount. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Ellen (Moynihan) Abert, in 2004, and his daughter, Mary Alice Hammerle, who died in 2005. He is survived by three sons, John (M. Patricia) of Camillus, David of Fairmount, and Arthur (Dana) of North Richmond Hills, TX; a sister, Marjorie Abert of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in Warners. Calling hours will be Monday 4 to 7 p.m. at Whelan Bros. FH 3700 W. Genesee Street. Contributions to Alzheimer's Assoc. of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY. 13204.
