Veteran Employe Of U. P. Succumbs At Home In S. L.

Joseph Smith Groesbeck, 68, veteran passenger director at the Union Pacific station, died at the family residence, 1614 Major street, Thursday at 5:25 a. m. of complications after an illness of high blood pressure.
Mr. Groesbeck
Mr. Groesbeck was born in Salt Lake December 18, 1864, a son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Groesbeck. He attended the public schools and for the greater part of his life had lived here. His father was a prominent real estate operator, formerly owning extensive Main street property. For many years he had control of the Kenyon hotel corner.
During the last 20 years Mr. Groesbeck had been on duty at the Union Pacific station and had made many friends among travelers and Salt Lake people.
He was an active member of the L. D. S. church, having served on a mission to New Zealand more than three years.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sarah Blood Groesbeck; four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Parr, Mrs. Ester Parr, Mrs. Helen Gross and Miss Alice Groesbeck; a son, Percy Groesbeck; a brother, Samuel Groesbeck, and a sister, Mrs. Josephine G. Smith, all of Salt Lake.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p. m. in the Jefferson L. D. S. ward chapel. Burial will take place in the City cemetery.
Friends may call at the Deseret mortuary Friday and Saturday, and at the family residence, 1614 Major St.
