According to old cemetery records, she died of "congestion of bowels" at age 3 years and 8 months and was interred on December 21, 1884.

From The Clarion, Jackson,, MS, December 24, 1884:

Little Annie
Just as the sun was setting last Sabbath evening, was laid to rest the light and joy of another stricken home. Little Annie, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Saunders, died on Saturday afternoon.

The death of this little girl, though she was scarcely more than a babe, has saddened many hearts beyond the immediate circle of friends ; for her winsome, loving ways, and sunny smile made friends for her everywhere, and when the news of her death was received, eyes unused to tears grew dim, and every heart was touched, not alone with sympathy for the sadly bereaved household, but with sincere grief that little Annie had gone from among us.

When angels bore her tiny form through the golden gates, the "sweetest flower of all the field'' was taken from our midst, and transplanted in God’s garden. Her beauty was too fair for earth ; the fragrance of her loving heart too pure and delicate, and her little life too fragile for a longer absence from her rightful home among the angel-children, so God's finger touched her and she slept, while

"Softly from that hushed and darkened room,
Two angels issued, where but one went in."

To the family and friends, the bereaved parents, and heart-broken little sister, of whose very life little Annie seemed a part, the sympathy of our whole community goes out, in this hour of their sadness.
