Carl Todd, Sr. served in World War II as a Paratrooper. He enlisted July 22, 1943, at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, "for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law". After he was discharged, he lived in Bermuda where he worked on the fire department.
When Carl moved back to Tennessee, he went to work at AEDC, which was ARO, at the time, and worked on the fire department until he retired as Crew Chief. He was married to Glenda McWhirter Holt September 22, 1962, at his sister's house, Euna & Hugh Northcutt in Manchester, TN, with his nephew, Carl Wayne Davenport officiating. He died at home November 16, 2004, exactly three weeks after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His funeral was held at First Baptist Church in Tullahoma, Tennessee and the Sons of Confederate Veterans held a beautiful Memorial Service for him at the Confederate Cemetery next to the Winchester City Cemetery in Winchester, Tennessee with Dr. Michael Bradley officiating.
Carl also enjoyed playing golf and pool and he was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans. His ashes are buried in the old Confederate Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Winchester, TN in the area designated for members of Confederate Veterans and their spouses.
Carl was the youngest of 9 children, and was the son of Levi Newton Todd and Nova Loudella Cooper Todd of Cannon Co., TN. Other children of Levi and Nova Cooper Todd and siblings of Carl were: Florence Ara; Carmie Pauline; Corbia Avo; Euna Goff; James Wesley; Dan Clark; Horace Curlee; and Edna Katylee Todd. (GMT)
