Catherine Kirkpatrick, nee Flora, was born in Washington County MD September 15, 1819; died September 19, 1900, aged 81 years and 4 days. At the age of 12 years, her parents moved to Richland County OH with she lived for the remainder of her life. On the 7th of November, 1844, she was married to Jeremiah Kirkpatrick. To this union was born eleven children. Two have passed to the other world in infancy, leaving four sons and five daughters living. The children are: Sarah Kuhn, near Shelby. With this daughter she made her home since the death of her husband, which occured June 20, 1896. Julia Kuhn, near Shelby, Richard Kirkpatrick of New Loudon, Amos Kirkpatrick of Shelby, Christia Ann Sheely of Chicago Junction, Malinda McKinney of Lexington, William Kirkpatrick of Shelby, Matilda Hartman near Shelby, Smith Kirkpatrick near Shelby. There are 38 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren left to mourn the loss of a good, loving mother and grandmother.
In early womanhood she gave her heart to God and united with the Mount Bethel Lutheran church in the year 1840. She has been a cripple thirteen years. Through it all she has been patient, cheerful and happy. The children have lost a kind, loving mother and the neighbors a true and noble friend.
